The temple was once the palace of the last King of Sri Lanka and is currently one of the most revered monasteries in Sri Lanka. Every year millions of locals and tourists alike visit the Temple of the Tooth to witness the awe-inspiring Esala Perahera that is filled with rhythmic Kandyan dancers and fire wielding performers.

Peradeniya is most famous for its magical gardens, constructed by ancient kings and now home to every endemic plant in Sri Lanka. The Botanical gardens are famous for the huge amounts of flowers, especially the large variety of orchids. Visit the gardens during your stay in Kandy to witness one of the reasons why Sri Lanka is one of the best places in the world for plant lovers.
A few minutes away from the main part of Kandy is a beautiful forest reserve called Udawattekele, teeming with giant trees that block out the sun.
